Physical therapy review guide

Physical therapy review guide
There are a number of quantifiable entities that one encounters everyday. However, it is also indisputable that there are things that need to be assessed in a different manner than just the use of numerical representations and assignment of evaluative codes. One of these fields is that of physical therapy. As such, it is but proper to come up with a systematized tool that is both useable and effective to assess the entity in question. We refer to this specific tool as the physical therapy review guide. The nomenclature physical therapy review guide is indeed proper and precise for the purpose that it has been conceived. Physical therapy is a broad science in its own right. There are different facets with which this particular discipline can be addressed or channeled to. The physical therapy review guide enables the individual to explore these facets in an organized and systematized process thereby maximizing the learning experience in effect. Even in just the process of exploration itself, one can already visualize the effect of this tool to the learner. The physical therapy review guide could also serve as a rubric in assessing the progress of the individual in reference to the discipline. Be it general or specific, the physical therapy review guide can be of help in the determination of the relative position of the individual with respect to the subject goal (e.g. skill, knowledge) and the current standing of the individual in question. Since physical therapy review guide is denoted as a rubric in this case, it is therefore imperative that this guide can also be labeled as an effective assessment tool. In other words, this guide can be an extension of an established array of assessment styles to get a more precise and a more accurate result. Furthermore, the strength of the physical therapy review guide can also be utilized as a catalyst of improvement. Much like SIX SIGMA deals with quality as TRIZ deals with technological innovation, physical therapy review guide can also set the pace and standard as to how certain practices and procedures are evaluated. In effect, this tool can actually enhance or develop the content and context of the discipline itself- in this case, that of physical therapy. The intricate discipline of physical therapy is indeed broad and unquantifiable. Nevertheless, it is but proper that a systematized and organized assessment and evaluation of this discipline be implemented and adhered. Not only would this practice set the standards but it would also dictate the possible heights of improvements that physical therapy, as a science, can ascend. It all start with an idea labeled as physical therapy review guide.

Forensic blood group analysis

Filed under: Health Information — admin @ 2:00 am

Forensic blood group analysis
A forensic serologist determines the characteristics of blood and the blood type. He also performs blood stain examination, blood testing and prepares for the testimony. These are the main job involved in forensic blood group analysis. This job also includes analyzing saliva, semen and other body fluids. Many crime labs do not have their own laboratory and this is being handled by a biochemist, a forensic biologist and other technicians. The forensic analysis performers are serologist with an M.D. or Ph.D. qualification. The need for a testimony by some expert is a must for certain crime fields. The other states depend on the forensic pathologists. The professors of hematology, biochemistry and immunology are the experts who are borrowed by the prosecution and crime departments for defense and evidences. The areas that involve examinations on bloodstain and evidence regarding blood are an integral segment of most crime scenes. These reports are a must for a police investigator and even for a bloodstain specialist. These forensic blood group analysis and examinations are considered to be valid and reliable. These estimates are of immense use and are frequently employed in blood testimony. Blood is the well-known, common and perhaps the most important substantial proof in the criminal justice today. This is only considered to be authentic evidence. There is nothing to replace these evidences such as medical or forensic. The presence of these evidences always has connection to the suspect as well as the victim and acts as the main support in the violence scene. Bloodstain patterns tell lots about movement and position of the crime, who was first attacked, how many times and in what manner. This resolves the best of the arguments of crime and in the least explanations everything is resolved. Criminals are intelligent and try ingenious ways to clean up their crime, hide it or completely erase the blood evidences, but regardless of whatever they do to conceal their crime, the forensic blood group analysis is one step ahead and can bring perfect solutions. The forensic blood group analysis is considered as the main evidence and the forensic serologists can give proper proof even with a single blood stain. The typing of blood is now referred to as the ABO system and is found to be the most powerful source in forensic analysis of any blood group. People are as well familiar with the Rh factor and the blood group systems and this is widely accepted that the blood reports or blood group analysis done by the forensic department is certainly genuine.

Alopecia in teens
When you think of teenagers, chances are that teenage baldness is the last thing that runs through your mind. However, alopecia in teens is an apparent condition that teens can suffer with. There have been documented cases in which teens for no reason in particular began to lose their hair almost instantly. There are several factors that can contribute to a teen losing their hair. Be aware that not all teens suffer with this condition, but for the ones that do it can be extremely devastating. The first step in trying to solve alopecia in teens is to discover the root of the problem. One type of hair loss that teens can encounter is commonly referred to as alopecia areata. This particular type of baldness is apparent in adults; however teens can suffer with this condition as well. Teenagers may begin to notice circular bald spots that seem to appear for no reason in particular. Remember this condition is relatively rare in teenagers but it can happen in teens that have a family history with baldness. In fact symptoms can begin to show as early as fifteen years of age. Another reason that a teen may begin to develop this onset of baldness is referred to as traction alopecia. This particular type of baldness occurs in a small number of teens around the world. This particular condition is normally caused by putting your hair under an immense amount of stress. Factors such as extreme blow drying, dying, curling or other heat treatments have been known to trigger this certain type of baldness. If you engage in any of the following activities and you have noticed you are losing your hair at rapid speeds you need to cease the treatment and hair should be able to grow back normally. Another reason why teens may lose their hair actually has to do with infections. Tinea Capitis is such an infection which will cause a teenagers hair to fall out. Things such as scalp ringworm and other fungus may be something that needs to be taken into account if you have this particular condition. Tinea Capitis is extremely contagious. If you find yourself experiencing hair loss because of a fungi infection, it would behoove you to stay away from others, and do not let anyone touch the affected spot. Alopecia in teens can begin to occur as early as 14 years of age. Normally the baldness occurs from the underlying factors that were previously discussed. If you feel you do not have any of the illnesses discussed your premature baldness could have something to do with heredity. Positive blood group

Filed under: Health Information — admin @ 11:20 am

Positive blood group
The entire system of blood group comprises with ABO and Rhesus systems. This decides a person of having positive or negative blood and also decides the compatibility of two different people. The red blood cells surface has many layers among which are the antigens. The two significant antigens are known as the A and B antigen. The A antigen if found on the red blood cells surface, the blood group is considered to be of A group. If the same on the red blood cells surface, B antigen is found, the blood group is determined to be of B group. If the red blood cell surface has both A and B antigen, the blood group is considered to be of the AB group. If the antigens neither A nor B is found on the red blood cell surface, it is considered to be of the O blood group. The antigens are responsible in determining the blood as O, A, AB and B. Blood group having A antigen consist in the plasma B antibodies and the blood having B antigen consist in the plasma A antibodies. Blood with A as well as B antigens on the red cells have no antibodies present in the plasma. But, the same blood with no A and B antigens have in the plasma A and B antibodies. This shows that a blood type certainly has the antibody opposite in the plasma. In case the A or B antigens meet the A or B antibodies respectively, they will destroy the antigens and the red blood cells will get clogged together and block the arteries and veins of a patient. This proves that blood group A cannot be given blood group B as it would attack the antigen of the donor and the veins of the patient would get blocked and turns into a serious condition resulting in death. Therefore, A blood group can be given only to people having A and AB only. Similarly, B blood group can be given to people having B and AB blood group only. The Rhesus factor is very essential to meet the compatibility as the Rh D antigen has a vital role to play. This is an antigen on the red blood cell surface. If the Rhesus antigen is present, it is known as positive and in the absence it is determined as negative. The general rule is that Rh negative can be given to Rh positive, but the Rh positive is nor given to Rh negative patient. However, only during emergencies, Rh positive is given to Rh negative with special drugs and medical supervision. Hence transfusing positive into negative patient is restricted especially among potential mothers. This is avoided as antibodies will form against the Rh D antigen and will cause problems in the pregnancy stages and also to the new born baby.

Counselling clients with bipolar disorder

Counselling clients with bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder is a mood condition in which the person affected experiences extreme mood swings going between mania and depression. These mood changes last for abnormally long periods of time and are severe enough to impair functioning in al areas including personal, social and occupational. A person with bipolar disorder in a manic episode will feel euphoric, overly optimistic; engage in impulsive and often reckless behaviours, have reduced sleep and pressured speech. There is also hyperactivity and in severe cases, hallucinations and delusions. In a depressive episode, a person with bipolar disorder feels extremely lethargic, sleepy, is non-attentive, has low self worth, is increasingly irritable and may also have suicidal ideations. Fortunately for those with bipolar disorder and their families, the condition is manageable using different types of treatment plans. The most common therapy for bipolar disorder is medication. Medicines have proven very useful in the short and long-term management of bipolar disorder. However there are many patients who want to avoid medication and like to try other forms of intervention like counselling. Counselling clients with bipolar disorder is quite common and is frequently done in conjunction with medication. When counselling clients with bipolar disorder, the counsellor can use one of many psychotherapies, depending on the extent of the disorder as well the suitability of the therapy. One of the more common psychotherapy treatments used when counselling clients with bipolar disorder is Cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy helps those with bipolar disorder learn to identify and change negative thought patterns and thus change their behaviour. This therapy also helps the clients recognise factors that may be triggering their mood change and thus learn to control it. Another psychotherapy used when counselling clients with bipolar disorder is Family-focused therapy which includes the family members of the client. This therapy is directed towards the family members learning effective coping strategies as well as learning to recognise symptoms of bipolar disorder early in the mood change. This will help improve communication and problem solving. A third therapy used in counselling clients with bipolar disorder is Interpersonal and social rhythm therapy. This is important as it helps the client manage their daily routine and improve inter-personal relationships. Since the mood swings result in a change in sleep patterns etc, this therapy helps regulate daily schedules that help in reducing manic episodes. Finally, psychoeducation is a part of any process of counselling clients with bipolar disorder. This helps the client learn about the illness and its treatment so that early intervention can be carried out.

Typhoid vaccination

Filed under: Health Information — admin @ 10:00 pm

Typhoid vaccination
One of the most common water borne diseases is Typhoid fever. Typhoid is caused due to infection from the typhoid bacillus – salmonella typhi. Salmonella typhi typically contaminates water from the faeces of infected persons, and ingestion of contaminated water or food can result in typhoid fever. Typical symptoms of typhoid include a characteristically high fever (in the range of 104 degrees Fahrenheit), extreme sweating, diarrhoea without blood and gastroenteritis, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc. Typhoid generally progresses in stages starting with the fever which can move into delirium and dehydration. Also the standard Widal Test for detecting typhoid generally gives a negative result in the first week. Typhoid fever is generally not fatal. It can be effectively treated with a wide range of antibiotics. Generally. About 10-30% of typhoid cases end in death. However, prevention is always better than cure, especially with a disease like typhoid which can get very stressful for the patient and the caregivers. The best measure of prevention is typhoid vaccination. A Typhoid vaccination has been in use in Germany and England since 1896 and it is still licensed in some countries. It is a whole-cell vaccine but is not popular because it has a higher rate of side effects. However, at present there are two typhoid vaccinations that are more popularly used and have been proven to be safe and effective. The first typhoid vaccination is an attenuated S. typhi strain Ty21a. This typhoid vaccination is the first live oral vaccine for typhoid. 56 countries in Africa, the Americas and Europe have licensed the Ty21a typhoid vaccination. This vaccination is not meant for those children below 6 yrs of age, and at least 4 doses at a gap of 2 days each is needed for full protection. If the person is travelling then the last dose should be one week before the travel date. Also a booster typhoid vaccination every 5 yrs is needed for people at risk. The second typhoid vaccination is the S. typhi polysaccharide (PS) vaccine which is a vaccination that is injected. This typhoid vaccination is not to be given to children below 2 yrs of age. Protection is satisfactory with one dose of the vaccine and should be given at least 2 weeks before travelling abroad. With this typhoid vaccination, a booster every 2 yrs is needed for at risk persons. In the US, typhoid vaccination is not on the usual recommendation lists. However it is recommended to anyone travelling to countries where the risk is higher. It is also suggested that those who work in close contact with typhoid bacteria carriers or in the lab with bacterium should get the typhoid vaccination. Even though typhoid vaccinations are available, the best prevention is to take care of the food and water ingested and the hygiene and sanitation levels when handling the same.
